In May of 2012, Mitchell Gatz purchased Stephens Construction, Inc. from Curt and Jackie Stephens.  Mitchell graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in construction science and management.  The company’s tradition of excellent customer service and quality products has been proven and maintained over the last 50 years.  Continual progressive thinking will carry SCI into the future.

Prior to Mitchell Gatz purchasing SCI, the company began in 1959 when Joseph B. and Dorothy Stephens moved to Colby, KS.  Joe started building and remodeling homes, then founded Stephens Construction, which was incorporated as Stephens Construction, Inc. on May 18, 1972.  Curt and Jackie Stephens moved from Wichita, where Curt attended school, to Colby in 1991.  Curt began managing SCI shortly thereafter and purchased the business from his parents in 1993.
